About Vernonia: An easy to grow, late bloomer, its common name Iron Weed tells it like it is. As a native it is found in roadside ditches and across fields where the soil is average but moist. In the garden, it's best planted mid to back of the border as all varieties grow tall. If a shorter plant is desired, cut back to approx. 2” in early June and you'll be rewarded with a shorter, fuller, fall blooming plant. Worth growing as butterflies love it!
